Look at the pot calling the kettle black.  The Democrat’s message is as old and stale as your Republican characterization:  I’m from the government and I’m here to give you everything, paid for by other people.

The Republican’s method works, when implemented.  The Democrat’s succeeds only in growing the government while promising utopia and delivering little, but it does “create” more government jobs, thereby sucking more gimme-gartners onto the government-union plantation.

I disagree, the democrat program works very well for what it was designed to do, keeping democrats n political power and keeping alll the goodies flowing to the democrat base. The democrat program has not changed since FDR, take money from the other party and buy votes with it while growing government. Simple.

The post states that “[f]ortunately, the Democrats will not nominate such a candidate for president.”

I think it a very good thing that Democrats might nominate a conservative-minded individual.  The more the better.  The goal is conservatism, not Republicanism.

I agree, the statement:

The Democrat’s succeeds only in growing the government

The Republican’s have done a terrific job of growing the government in the last eight years. To say that the Democrats merely want to grow government and not take a critical look at the past eight years is too learn nothing.

This is what I mean by stale message. You don’t think people have noticed that while bashing dems for wanting to grow government, whilst doing it themselves, goes unnoticed by the voters?

You don’t think by repeating the matra “extend the tax cuts” when in reality the average joe is seeing no benefit is a “positive message”?

When health care spending is out of control, gas prices ever going upwards, and food prices rising, a positive message of “extend the tax cuts” is a joke. This message has already been framed by the Dems as only affecting the rich and this image has stuck with average joe sixpack.

“It’s the economy stupid,” the dem’s won with that in 92 and guess what you still don’t even see it coming in 2008.

Why vote for a RINO when you can get a real socialist with a democrat?

Where the frig were all you guys when for 8 friggin years people shouted this from the rooftops. For 8 years we saw an unprecedented growth of government, a deficit out of control, war with no sacrifice, rights and the constitution shat upon and it was all going swimmingly because “the grown ups were in control”

Sounds to me like the grown ups had substance abuse issues.

Now we look into the maw of a Democratic Government who will run with this ball and go for broke.

Nice....

We are not so far apart as you seem to believe.  Although the dems promise to the “little guy”, who really gets the payola?  I wrote it, and so did you:  growing government, in the form of new programs promised to “the needy and the working poor”, while the bulk of the money goes to new employees to administer the programs.

Harry, there isn’t a damn thing wrong with the Republican message except the Republicans.  They’ve behaved just like the Democrats.

But you guys kept on voting them, back in, crowing about hollow victories that gave you more of the same. To say that they acted like Democrats? No, they acted like politicians and you backed them up.

Don’t give me “there is no problem with the message” when you and many on this site supported 90% plus of the garbage that went along with it.

Excuse me, but just watch who you’re calling “you”.  I’m not about to speak for anyone else on this forum so let me say for myself that I have been bitching about Bush’s support for the profligate spending of the congressional republicans, including the prescription-drug program and all the rest of the pork.  I am no longer a registered Republican, in sum total, because of their bullshit, the last straw being that POS amnesty bill.

So don’t tell me about the “garbage” and don’t tell me who I backed because you’re full of crap.  Obviously not a close study, pal.

LOL, ditto.

The reason for voting for them was we kept getting the same line we are getting now, “but the democrats will be so much worse...” The lesser evil strategy, or the “screw’em, where else they gonna go?” strategy. It is a major reason the president and republican party polls have gotten so low, they screwed their base and the base returned the favor. Remember the backlash from the pork (e.g. bridge to nowhere), the ports deal, Meyers, amnesty, etc...? We have been sending letters, making calls, complaining and stopped sending money since 2004, when it became apparent they had definitely taken the train off the rails. It’s why they failed in 2006, and why they are on a path of disaster in 2008.

Not to mention the back and forth, very slow progress in Iraq. I understand why we stay, but I do not believe we have been following the better strategy for fighting a global war on terror and it has been frustrating. I told an uber liberal family member who is a professor my thoughts and reservations before we invaded Iraq, and my worst concerns came true.

I do expect the democrats will be worse, they have been rather bad the last two years while in control of Congress. I won’t vote for them at the national level, but I haven’t and won’t vote for a compromised and flawed republican either. Until the RNC gets real leadership that espouses and follows logical principles founded in individual liberty, they will lack a reliable base and will fail.

Then you have read very, very little. Do a search, you will find a boat load of anti-"R" comments and articles regarding the “R“‘s who have failed in following principles. For crying out loud, who do you think the whole pork busters initiative was driven by and who did it target? We drove Lott from office. Conservatives and the non-conservative republican leadership have been waring since at least 2004.

Read more, no one has changed. We like our good world, we are just trying to prevent it from becoming socialist and anti-libertarian.

Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, did not go as far as his predecessor, Mr. Davis, in advising members to step away from Mr. Bush. But Mr. Cole, facing growing restiveness among Republicans about the party leadership, acknowledged the tumult in his party’s ranks and suggested that his committee would look for a change in strategy.

“When you lose three of these in a row you have to get beyond campaign tactics and take a hard look and ask if there is something wrong with your product,” he said.

Yes, after 8 years of neglect, bloat, fear mongering, and unprecedented loss of US influence in the world there is indeed something wrong with the product, and the electorate knows it.
