The original article at Powerline is, itself, elitest.
The burden of paying for her undergraduate education at Princeton and her law school education at Harvard has scarred her. It remains a motif of her stump speech. No one is accorded a chance to ask her if she thought about attending the University of Illinois, or if she’s grateful for any of the financial assistance that facilitated her and her husband’s attendance at the finest institutions of higher learning in the United States.
Yes, UI would certainly have been an option, but in what areas are Princeton and Harvard the finest institutions of higher learning in the United States? These colleges exist on reputation, and the willingness of ivy leaguers to hire each other.
The moving bar… I managed to listen to about half of Michelle’s speech—I got so tired of hearing about the moving bar. I am surprised someone in the audience didn’t rush her to the corner pub. But I don’t think even a couple pops would have mellowed her.
It makes me sick to realize that BO will be our next president and Michelle will make us yearn for the days when Hillary was First Lady.
I can’t see how the Republicans can possibly win—gross mismanagement of the war and the economy deserve to be punished and will be punished. John McCain will be punished for the sins of W, and the country will be led by a strange, bitter multiculturalist who hates America and white people. God help us.

This will not happen, God WILL Bless us, and you must needs borrow some faith.

Okay, if you say. I just watched the messiah’s acceptance speech in North Carolina and the power of his populist poppycock scares me.
You watched? Did you hear Barack Obama’s claim that his father’s coffin was draped with an American flag? I didn’t see anyone in the NC audience paying attention.
It was between 2:48 - 3:07, after he professed his love for this country (U.S.A.) and said, “I know the promise of America because I lived it, Michelle has lived it....”
“It is the light of opportunity that led my father across an ocean. It is the founding ideals that the flag draped over my father’s coffin stands for...”
Ergo, he could NOT possibly mean the Kenyan flag! As far as I am able to glean from reports, the senior Obama did not serve the U.S. government in any capacity. Was it a misuse of the American flag? What gives?
Does she ever stop complaining about having to have paid back those darned student loans? The corollary of all that nonsense is that she thinks that she and Baracky should have had free Princeton and Harvard educations? Doesn’t this woman now have a $300,000 a year sinecure? That isn’t good enough for her?
This woman is angry and shockingly ignorant (a true affirmative action case) and the influence that she has on her husband is a real source of concern. OF course, while he’s smarter than she is and more “nuanced” is his attitudes he’s still an ultra-leftist as well, so he would be a source of concern even without Michelle.
I wouldn’t count out his winning in the fall. He’s a good speaker, and, if he’s vacuous, so what? Vacuity appeals to a lot of people. People are sick of the war, complacent about terrorism seven years after 9/11 and buying into the idea that Bush is somehow to blame for the “bad economy.” The media is going to be besotted with the idea of a black president and first lady (what better way to assuage elite white guilt?) and will do everything they can for him, throwing McCain under the bus (like Barack’s Grandmother).
McCain can still win, I think, because Barack’s leftist, America-hating associations (which include his wife and his preacher) and internationalist background and lack of experience will hurt him with non-elite whites and Hispanics (most blacks won’t care), but it’s a bad GOP year, so don’t count on a McCain win as a sure thing.
She was handed opportunities out of reach for the vast majority of people.
Being white and privileged gets you a MILLION times more mileage than being black and brilliant.
LOL, Michelle Obama is “brilliant” now? You really should read her Princeton thesis (if you can turn off Rev. Wright for a moment), if “read” is the operative term. Michelle herself admits she could not have made it there on merit. It’s easy to see why.
Baracky obviously is a smart enough lawyer and a gifted rhetorician, but he, like a lot of lawyers (PL excepted!), doesn’t understand how an economy works. I think even McCain understands the basics better than Obama, and that’s saying something (plus McCain has decent advisors).
Affirmative action in the White House? I welcome it. Dumb white men aren’t doing the job.
-Your fellow white man who is bitter! p.s. Michelle Obama is WAY SMARTER THAN YOU
It must be hard to see a Democratic Candidate who because he’s young, black (or mostly)
How on Earth do you reach the conclusion that a guy with a white mother (and all white ancestry on her side, unless you know something I don’t) and a black father (African) is “mostly” black? Is this the new Obama math?
Keep hope alive. Don’t stop believing. And above all, change. Yes we can.
What a beautiful post.
I have printed it and glued it to my refrigerator, next to a picture of Willie Horton and Revernd Wright, as a reminder of what blacks in America are trying to do to our country.
It is time that we all realize that black people are the true elite (just look at how they are being pampered in the prisons!) and how much the white people are suffering because of this. I can no longer afford the mortgage for my summer house in Aspen, because I spent so much money contributing to the Tom Tancredo campaign. Too bad that didn’t go to well (I blame it on those Hispanics I keep hearing about on Lou Dobbs!)
Anyway, The Obamas must be stopped. They are pure WASP-black-elitists , we all know they have created this new coalition of muslims and Wasps, the Harvard-Princeton-leftists- latte sipping Nation of Islam-secret society I keep hearing about in the media. They eat arugula and they are muslims and they will destroy America. And they are elitists.
It was we, the white men, who freed them from slavery, and now they have the audacity to be bitter! How DARE they?
It was we, the white men, who stopped giving them syphilis, and now they have the audacity to complain about health care? Outrageous!
Only Powerline, NRO and The Corner can stop them, and also the blessed people who have commented on this blessed post.
McCain*/Tancredo in 2008!
(* though I’m a little bit worried about hat black/Bangladeshi child of his, won’t she try to use “affirmative action” to become the first black female president and destroy America?)
Wow, you must be the Winning Wit of the Coffee House. You should take it on tour, honestly.
What else is there to say, Rocketman? Well, I actually attended an appearance by Michelle Obama and heard her stump speech in its entirety, and I can say that it was one of the most impressive and honest political speeches I’ve ever heard! She was extremely eloquent and articulate about the state of America after seven long years of Bushism and about the need for all of us to join together in healing this great nation of ours. Instead of glossing over the country’s problems, Michelle Obama tells it like it is, and she does so with insight, passion, and candor—apparently too much so for those on the right who have been out to destroy her and her husband from Day 1.
The hall was crammed to overflowing on that day in March, and Michelle got a standing ovation from everyone present. As a patriotic American, I was proud to be there!
Okay, you reactionaries can now all fire away for the rest of the day. What you’ll say is utterly predictable, but at least you know that not everyone agrees with you. In fact, my guess is that more Americans agree with me than with you on this issue, especially those who have actually heard her speak.
So, how was Rev. Wright? Is he sadly misunderstood too?
Did you hear Barack Obama’s claim that his father’s coffin was draped with an American flag?
Tuesday, I certainly did, and I wondered myself what that was about. I also note Obama’s familial pride in ol’ Dad, who dumped Baby Barack at the age of 2. Although what else is the Multiculturalist going to do? It was Dad who provided the cachet.
As for Michelle’s dubious academic performance, I believe it--especially based on what I could stomach of her Princeton senior thesis--but I wish there were better evidence available. I’m guessing she had mediocre grades and SAT scores. Her rhetoric nowadays is so full of holes it’s hard to believe she ever properly reasoned her way through a 3-page paper.
Well, we are told she graduated cum laude from Princeton. On the other hand, she majored in sociology and minored in African Studies, so it was basically nursery playtime for four years. Now, she did manage to graduate from Harvard law school. I’d be interested in hearing more about her record there and as a lawyer. There hasn’t been much talk about that anywhere that I’ve seen. She seems to have spent a very short time at her law firm. Was she in over head, like Anita Hill?
I haven’t seen anything about her that strikes me as evidence she’s smarter than the much-maligned Dubya, let alone “brilliant.” As for Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice, I think they need not defer to Michelle Obama.
Those of us who went to both college and law school had choices to make. In my own situation, I discounted Ivy League schools not because of my academic performance but due to the cost. Being a white male from a large middle class family, I was not a candidate for financial aid of any type. The costs associated with an Ivy League education were as out of reach for me as an Italian sports car. I chose institutions that I could afford and would not crush me with future debt. That is not to say that I did not have to borrow money - I did, and it took 10 years to pay back. But I never once complained about the debt - the education I received was worth it to me.
Thank you for explaining to the Obamaniacs how over-thirty, non-Beltway-elite whites see the world.
Even with the higher turnout Obama will generate among blacks and the apparently alarmingly deluded college kids he likely will still need to get in the low fortieth percentile with whites (and hold up with Hispanics). There’s a lot about Obama and his associates that will be hard for patriotic whites to swallow, but the media is going to be working overtime to get their Baracky in the White House, so it will be interesting to see what happens. Thank God for the secret ballot.
