For EVERY 5 Marines who landed on that rock in February 1945, 4 were either killed or wounded. The Marines that landed after the first wave personally knew this beyond any shadow of doubt. If you ever have the privilege of meeting an Iwo vet, be awed and thankful that men such as he existed to serve and fight for this country.

If the left clings to the mistaken belief that using the Rosenthal image is appropriate for expressing the gravitas of so called “global warming”, then so is using assassination pictures of John or Robert Kennedy, or Martin Luther King, or Kent State shooting images for selling ammunition. “When you absolutely can’t afford to miss!”

Time magazine will be gone and forgotten within 10 years. The Iwo Jima image will be remembered, revered, and honored for the service and sacrifice it represents forever.

The left has absolutely no comprehension of this service and sacrifice:

Communist Goals

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.”

The following email was sent to the editorial desk at TIME magazine last night.  I do not anticipate anything other than the standard reply: “Thanks for sending us the feedback. We read every piece of information we get from our users, and will forward your contribution to the right people here at TIME”....yeah, in a pigs eye.

Subject:  Re: The cover of this month’s issue of TIME.

The photograph of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima was inappropriately used on the cover of your most current issue.  TIME magazine denigrated this photograph and the men in it by photoshopping a tree into it.  I have read your editor’s reasoning behind the use of this photograph and it does not hold water.  My perception is that your staff thought they were being ever so clever.  Actually, I find TIME’s manipulation of this photograph to be really quite pathetic.  Three of those flag-raisers, Sergeant Michael Strank, Corporal Harlon Block and Private First Class Franklin Sousley did not survive the brutal fight on Iwo Jima.  TIME’s distortion of this photograph to illuminate a story on ‘global-warming’ constitutes a mockery of the personal sacrifice and the full measure of devotion that these six men and their fellow Marines and sailors gave for our nation.  TIME was wrong to use this photograph, it’s context is quite removed from the subject of your article.  Do you really think Brit Hadden or Henry Luce would have run this cover, I rather doubt it.  What’s next, a cover featuring a still from the Zapruder film extolling the inherent dangers of riding in convertibles?  TIME magazine owes an apology to the American public for this lame-brain effort, though I don’t think that will be forthcoming.

One of the brave men who raised that flag and survived the war was Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian.  Sadly, he died in a ditch, in the Arizona desert, on his “reservation”.

EDIT:

America is still filled with men and women like this.  These are the Americans who volunteer to serve in our military.  These are the men and women who have volunteered to serve in our military since March 2003.

The left can rant, and rage, and froth at the mouth all they want.  This does not change the fact that America is filled with men and women who will serve and sacrifice when called upon.

Kind of an aside to this whole matter.  At MCRD San Diego, our DI said that each of us had BETTER memorize the name of at least one famous Marine.  So, anyhow one day he comes into the squadbay and starts down the line asking each boot to give him the name of a famous Marine.  One after another the responses come out and he seems pleased until one guy shouts out “Issac Hayes, Iwo Jima flag-raiser”....well, the DI went ####### ballistic and made everyone hit the deck and give him fifty.  From that point on the offending boot was known as a ‘Shaft’, which was even funnier because he was white.
