Isn’t this baying at the moon, Vlad? After all, Hagee isn’t McCain’s regular minister, as McCain attends the North Phoenix Baptist Church
Did I say there was an exact, one-to-one correspondence between the two relationships? No.
In one case, we have a national candidate whose regular minister says some pretty outrageous things. The national media grabbed the story and ran with it, and pretty much shoved it down our throats for several weeks non-stop.
In the other, we have a national candidate who solicited the endorsement of an evangelical minister who says some pretty outrageous things. The national media all but ignored the story.
Not exactly one-to-one, is it?
Now, factor in that the received wisdom at Powerline is that the national media are stooges for the Democratic party, and for liberal causes in general, and you may begin to see my, um, cognitive dissonance emerging.
Actually, the media DID ignore Wright until they had no choice, same as the Clinton and Lewinsky story.
As I understand it, Fox News commentator Sean Hannity started flogging the Wright speeches almost 2 years ago on his radio show, and even had Wright on as a guest on his TV show a year ago . Except for his listeners and viewers, no one else seemed to care. Especially anyone in the media.
Here’s a transcript of his interview with Wright in March 2007
