Is it too much to ask that the LEADER of (what used to be) the most powerful nation of the world be intelligent and articulate?! Haven’t we all suffered enough under the seemingly never ending, 8-year reign of dummy under our current Commander in Chimp? As a pretty far left, uneasily offended liberal, I actually appreciate a straight shooter (yes, unfortunately as long as humans retain the sense of sight, color will always register in some way - I think Geraldine had to resign because she mentioned something about this 800 lb gorilla in the polling room). What I absolutely can no longer tolerate, though is STUPIDITY!!!! Obama’s statements are completely unacceptable on SO many levels! “TYPICAL WHITE PERSON?!” Are you SERIOUS?!! Someone who makes this kind of a blunder (and feels that people are typical based on their color, like cattle) this far along in his political career, has no business being elected! At least with our current chimpy, we got to laugh a lot when he screwed up, but there aint nothing funny about this boo-boo. Shoot - is it too late to get Hillary in there?!

When the Lord Jesus appeared to Emmanuel Segastashya in a field of beans,in Kibeho, Rwanda, in @ 1982, he appeared as a man with black skin, and spoke Emmanuel’s native tongue.  Were they, either him, or Him, “typical black persons”?  When the Lord Jesus appeared to Maria Faustina Kowalska in Poland, in the early 1930’s, He appeared, if the subsequent painting is to be believed, as a ("typical"?) white man, speaking Polish. Blood is not character; virtue takes no residence in skin color. Each of us is responsible for our choices, whatever our circumstances.  Although we can be ‘victimized’ by circumstances, we are not ‘victims’, else there were no be free will. We may choose fear, or Love.  You choose.

On the contrary, I thought that his chances were slim, but now that the wingnuts are pulling out all the stops in attacking him, I think he chances are pretty good. If he were so damaged, our hosts, and you, would not spend so much time lying about him.

Uh huh....

The trouble with your “analysis” Barney is that YOU liked Obama MORE when you found out about his preacher’s lunatic rants because you AGREED with them.

Most people don’t.

Hmm… Thanks for telling me what I think. Let me try it on you - you’re thinking “I’ll let a n*gger in the Whitehouse over my dead body”. Did I get that about right? Or is claiming that you know someone else’s unstated beliefs a ridiculous and dishonest mode of political debate?

No, you didn’t get that right about me, Barney (big surprise there, huh?), but that you’d actually accuse me of it, even in jest, suggests that I was correct in accusing you of agreeing with Rev. Wright…

because you think just like him.

Only if Rev. Wright thinks you’re ridiculous and dishonest. But that would be based on what you said, not what I imagine you saying. See the difference?

Of course the phrase “typical white person” is racist.
It presumes that there is a “typical white person”
And that the listener knows just how that “typical white person” is.

If you think you know just what a “typical X-race person” is, without knowing anything about the person except for the color of his/her skin … then, you are a racist.  Plain and simple.

And the fact that Obama then went on to clarify what he meant by the phrase “typical white person” as someone who “sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know--there’s a reaction that’s been bred into her experiences that doesn’t go away and it comes out in the wrong way” shows that Obama, not just his pastor, is prejudiced.  I have lots of white people in my family, but the phrase “typical white person” has never even crossed my mind ... Yet, it crossed Obama’s lips!

“… a reaction that’s been bred into her experiences …”
“ … bred into …”

Yes, the phrase “typical X-Race person”
is racist on its face, regardless of the race.

The United States still is the most powerful nation on earth.

Haven’t we all suffered enough under the seemingly never ending, 8-year reign of dummy under our current Commander in Chimp?

I haven’t suffered at all--in fact, I’ve prospered under President Bush.
And we don’t call him names like you did here at PL, which is a Conservative Republican forum.
We like and respect President Bush quite a lot; he’s not a “chimp” to me but one of the finest Presidents in our nation’s history.

As a pretty far left, uneasily offended liberal,

What with the “chimp” remarks, I would never have guessed!

What I absolutely can no longer tolerate, though is STUPIDITY!!!!

Well, then, you need to rethink being a Lefty and a Liberal because stupidity is about all you’re going to get from that side!
Liberalism really is a mental disorder.
Quit expecting more from the DimocRat candidates--the entire party is “Stuck on stupid!”
Speaking of monkey-like behavior and stupidity, you might want to look in the mirror.

I see - comprehension problem - I never accused you of racism.

Now, back on topic. I see that the overwhelming consensus here is in the minority:

Reverend Wright has made some controversial and unpatriotic comments about
America—do you believe Barack Obama shares his views, or not?

Yes: 25%
No: 57%

Now you could argue that you tried to QUALIFY it, but as you well know, racism is an accusation too explosive to be qualified…

which is why you did it.

As for your poll, it asked the wrong question.  Try something like, America—do you believe Barack Obama showed judgment worthy of a man who would be President by sitting quietly in his pew and listening to Rev. Wright?

For TWENTY years?

With his children beside him?

How about Obambi, your hero.  Ever seen him smoke?

Nope!

It’s just another cover-up by his MSM enablers.

I’m glass to see someone’s got an Orwell’s signature line up above (Thugz).  I think that’s appropriate, considering it was Orwell’s opinion that fascism was a creature of the Left.  I was also thinking of Orwell because Wright’s sermons remind me of nothing so much as the “Hour of Rage” that the citizens in 1984 had to attend every day.  Is that what it was called?  Something like that . . . .

The thing that caught my attention with Obama’s explanation of the “Grandma remark” was that rascism was something that was “bred” in us.  If so, how can we change?  (He also mentioned in his speech that the ideas of democracy had been “seared into my genetic make-up” or something like that).

I wish we could ask Reverend Wright if Obama could really unite this country.

Obama appears to be digging himself in deeper and deeper.

Sure, but he’s also letting the truth drip out.

Obama is clearly someone who despises whites. He’s surrounded himself with angry blacks and it’s very fair to judge someone based on the company they keep.

I did it to show you that your type of argument is totally dishonest - I can’t believe I have to spell it out for you - but I was explicitly saying that you are NOT racist. That part:

barney - 21 March 2008 10:46 AM

Let me try it on you - you’re thinking “I’ll let a n*gger in the Whitehouse over my dead body”.

Was an example of faulty implication, like your previous post.

But, you, on the other hand, explicitly accused me of racism, based on nothing other than my belief that Obama has a good chance of becoming president.

Perhaps you can explain your reasons for playing the racist card.
