we should not forget that the Duke Lacrosse team did hire a couple of African-American “strippers” to entertain at the party that started the whole fiasco.

Penfield:

Actually, if you look closely at how the whole fiasco developed, the decision to hold a party in the first place started the ball rolling. Assuming that cellphones were used to make reservations, we have two problems: parties for college students and cellphones.

I would hope that these students learned their lesson and refrain from attending any more parties or using cellphones.

Excellent observations! Parties are dangerous as are cell phones. It is a fiasco waiting to happen!

While I agree with all of the appalling details of the Duke case and the shameful behavior of the Duke faculty and administration, we should not forget that the Duke Lacrosse team did hire a couple of African-American “strippers” to entertain at the party that started the whole fiasco.  I think that young men from such upstanding families should have exercise better judgment.  I certainly hope they do in the future.

Is hiring black strippers any worse than Duke hiring a flaming jack-ass as President and a bunch of bigoted hypocrites for a faculty?  I wonder if Coach Mike would stay there if the basketball arena wasn’t named for him?

Don’t you have to have a Congressional nomination to get into those joints?  How much does *that* cost, from the get-go?

I hope the Duke kids and their families *do* go after the Gang of 88.  They are still as unrepentant as Dan Rather, still hurling accusations and name-calling, and sometimes you simply have to hit a stubborn stupid mule across its dim-witted head with a board of bankruptcy to get its attention.  I want these “educators” to suffer, and since they probably all have tenure, the only way to make that happen is to invade their pocketbooks.  And the best way to do that is through the court system, because that will embarrass them at the same time they’re being fleeced.

Three of them. The other two are open to anyone. There are other ways to gain an appointment to the three military academies, as well. Full details are available at their websites.

They are beyond embarrassment. And, depending on the outcome of a civil trial, tenure may not save them.

It is my understanding that they have already settled with the university and that the settlement included the 88.

They did settle with the university, but I haven’t seen anything that said specifically that faculty were included in that settlement.  I don’t know that we know, actually, what the settlement included since I think they’re forbidden from talking about it.

Even if the group of 88 is included in the settlement that would be as part of Duke University, so there might be some way of going after the ringleaders as private citizens for libel or slander, or something like that.

Unless the Gang of 88 shut up and hunker down, and start being more conciliatory, I think some smart lawyer is going to figure out some way to take it out of their hides and their bank accounts.
