LOL.  I don’t care what you “resent.”

Your post was small, bud.  Facts is facts.

Then please explain how it was so. Please.

To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property, and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means.”

Odette, you are acting like a liberal who *gasps* in indignation when someone questions the worthiness of Hip-Hop “culture”, or bra-burning Feminism.

Subjects aren’t untouchable simply because of the indignant “sensitivity” of those discussed. That’s PC BS.

I just asked a question.

Do you realize that you are leveling accusation here, and not providing a single example to support it? You are off base sir.

Wow, this turned stupid faster than I’d thought. Basically, what happened was:

1) Someone said something disgusting a while back. People complained. I banned him.

2) You all got very, very angry with me.

3) Someone said something disgusting today. People complained.

4) I put it to a vote.

If anyone can really explain how I’ve gone wrong here, please do so. And if you’d prefer the fiat system, let me know. Either way, this Town Hall forum is staying so that “meta debates” don’t clog up the topical threads.

Joe

Simple.

You’re jewish (evidently) and so you naturally favor jews over non-jews. You’re not capable of anything else and indeed are driven by this directive.

Any other questions?

By the bye, as a personal matter, let me declare that Shmuels has disgusted me with his childish behavior. What encouraged me to put it to a vote rather than ban him outright is the plain fact that he has contributed positively to the Faith, Family & Community Forum for quite a while. If he didn’t have that good record, he’d be summarily banned.

Rgs,

I really don’t see the problem here.

1) Decide whether you are banning profanity, vulgarity or both.
2) Adopt a standard and apply it.

Personally, I wouldn’t ban either and I’ve said so before, but it isn’t my forum.

Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t, huh?

Sometimes you just don’t know how “happy” people are unless they are complaining about something. The time to worry is when they STOP complaining!

Wow, this turned stupid faster than I’d thought.

It’s the end of the summer.  Things are like this everywhere, but it’s just seasonal.

Basically, what happened was:

1) Someone said something disgusting a while back. People complained. I banned him.

2) You all got very, very angry with me.

That was the middle of summer, when NOTHING was really happening.  It was just a chance for a good, raucous debate.

3) Someone said something disgusting today. People complained.

4) I put it to a vote.

Yes.  Just putting it to a public vote is a clear punishment, to begin with.

If anyone can really explain how I’ve gone wrong here, please do so. And if you’d prefer the fiat system, let me know.

I have no problem with the voting, but I would do it by fiat, myself.  I would dump the offensive posts into this meta-forum and let people argue about the validity of each one to their hearts’ desires.

In the end, the administrator can never hope to have the agreement of more than 35% of the group, for any interesting cases.  It just is.

There are other answers, but they would involve way too much programming to request, or even suggest.

I think he has two posts up in the Faith, Family & Community Forum, about the Torah. I enjoyed them, and thought well of Shmuels Friend...until just recently noticing his posts in other threads. Then that last post that brought another posters mother into the debate. Basically, Shmuels Friend has lost all credibility in Faith, Family & Community Forum, for me anyway, because of his posts elsewhere. If he posts again on the Torah, I plan on asking him about his “mother’s XXXX” post…

Your job is tough, I have no complaints about you, and you are doing a good job.

Polls on such are fine (though they can be corrupted easily), and you have established a new area to address such vulgar posts that show up; however, what happens the next time a posters’ “mother’s XXXX” gets brought up, e.g. Shmuels Friend’s poll allows him to stay, but the next poster who uses the same term gets banned because s/he fails the ‘Poll Test’?

;-)
