All right, so obviously Schmuels Friend’s post was provoked by a blindside vulgarity as well.
Mitigating? I’d say yes. Without a doubt.
Oh for heaven’s sake.
If that sort of trash talk justified any sort of vulgarity on Shmuel’s part, every liberal on this forum could get a free pass for doing little except swearing.
There are free (absolutely free) dictionaries available online so you could find out the difference between “justify” (your amusing word) and mitigate. Up to you, of course.
Odette,
Your sarcasm, sir, is so lovely. Really. If you planted it, it would blossom into delicious satire.
No, it doesn’t mitigate anything either. There’s personal insults (which this forum obviously allows and indeed celebrates) and then there’s just being vulgar.
Why do you say that? I’m just asking the question. There is a discrepancy as to how two extremely similar situations are being treated by Joe, whom I happen to respect a great deal because of his admin acumen and level head. I see him being inconsistent here, and am wondering why. People engage in nepotism all the time. I’m wondering aloud if that is the case here; not accusing.
Is wondering aloud whether nepotism is taking place making you aghast because the subjects of my question are Jewish? Apparently, I hold Jewish people in higher regard than you do.
Apparently you don’t.
Most likely, Joe was simply applying what he learned from the fallout of the banning of g.a.b. into the next such incident.
It’s called adaptation.
But you leapt to the Jew factor as the likely reason. Any veteran forum admin (like myself - cough) would at least throw the adaptation factor into consideration.

C’mon now. I didn’t leap to anything as likely. I just asked the freakin’ question. Adaptation is another fine explanation. Sheesh Rap.
As to those demanding that g.a.b. (who I liked a lot) be let back if Shmuel isn’t banned, I would say that g.a.b. did return as g_a_b but decided not to keep posting, for whatever reason.
I would also add that this forum is very young and growing, and the bans until now have been on an ad hoc basis, while the admins are trying to figure out an appropriate set policy - at least that’s what I figure and we all know how hard it is to write down a fair banning policy without running into silly infractions that shouldn’t be banned but do run counter to the policy.
Shmuel has annoyed me at times (many times) but I think that he tends to bring up decent points that may not be raised by others. The only problem that I really had with Shmuel was that he was posting in the PowerLine forum, but the admins could stop that, if they wanted (that forum should be locked to all of us from creating threads, there).
As to the vulgarity, I would just have the admins edit the old posts, chock it up to an oversight, and add the “offensive words” to the ‘####’ list (which I again commend PowerLine on implementing).
IDP: “I have no shred of anti-semitism in my being. But it does make me wonder when g.a.b. was unilaterally banned for a particular lack of decorum, and JMalchow is reluctant to apply the same standard to Schmuck’s Friend for virtually the exact same lack of decorum.
Was there a poll to ban “g.a.b. Seems like he was banned by the Mods, and no poll was offered. Shmuels Friend post used a similar word AND involved someone’s mother...scheesh!?!
If Shmuels Friend isn’t banned over this, then “g.a.b.†should be allowed back NOW!!!
As I recall, g.a.b. is Christian not Jewish. Coincidence?
.
Oh please. Get real.
Well, Odette, there is always this to consider…

The parsha begins with war and ends with war. The first war described in the beginning of the parsha is against an unknown, unspecified and unidentified enemy…

Shabat shalom. Wonderful to have both a Torah portion and a Bible verse series going.
But I hate religious nepotism when and where it exists. Not saying it exists here, just asking the question.
That does it, Malchow. The jig is up!!! They’re on to us!!! Save yourself and ban me NOW!!! I know a nice gentile couple who will hide me in their cellar until this blows over.

LOL. Nice try. Like I said. Shame on you.
Go back and read my post Odette. I’d like you to point out to me specifically where I said anything for which I should be ashamed. And please don’t call me a liar. In your mind, is questioning nepotism only out of the question if those being questioned are of a particular “untouchable” group or class, like Jewish people, for instance? Otherwise, your admonition makes no sense to me.
If Schmuel’s Friend was JMalchow’s uncle, would you admonish me the same? What if they were both Muslim?
Again, I didn’t make an accusation, I just asked the freaking question. I resent your accusation to the contrary.
