Just came across a fascinating test that seeks to predict one’s political tendencies based on one’s moral/ethical views on various topics.
Word of advice:
Before you select any of the answers, make sure to click on the underlined label of each subject to get an expanded and more nuanced explanation of the available response choices.
For additional fun, click on the “Countries” link on the right side of the page. Granted, this is not scientific, but it still provides for some interesting comparisons.
My results:
2.0 on the “Moral Order” axis, -6.0 on the “Moral Rules” axis, which places me in the Economic Conservative, Conservative Neo-liberal, and Republican voter category, with a 100% correlation with Ronald Reagan. Pretty close, I’d say.
I scored 5.5 on Moral Order and -6 on Moral Rules.
They called me a Paleoconservative (colorful)/Conservative neoliberal. It was pretty good, except that I am not an isolationist (though I am an America First type - since I believe that a government’s sole responsibility is to its own citizens).
I’m going to check out the rest of the site. Nice find, Gabe.

You beat my score!
I scored 1.0 on the “Moral Order” axis and -6.5 on the “Moral Rules” axis. I only scored a 95.6% correlation with Ronald Reagan.
I wonder how many are taking this test multiple times in an attempt to skew results?

What GPA manipulation, perish the though, nobody does that. Do they?
My score indicates that George W. Bush and I were separated at birth. Is this possible? Or could this test have misunderestimated my liberal qualities? All of which leaves me to wonder what my mama was doing, way back when.
I’ve been exploring the website a bit more this afternoon. One of the things I did was to overlay the profiles of U.S. Presidents with those of G-8 countries. Here are a few things that stood out:
1. With a score of (-4, 0), Jimmy Carter’s profile is the most distant from the profile of the U.S. (1, -3).
2. Jimmy Carter’s “Moral Order” (i.e. view of what an ideal world would look like) quotient of -4 is not only to the left of Canada’s -2, but also to the left of France’s -3. It appears that his ideal is the democratic socialism of Germany.
3. The profile of the U.S. (1, -3) is closest to that of Gerald Ford (0, -3). Second closest? Richard Nixon (2, -4.5).
4. The average score of Republican Presidents (3, -5) is closer to that of the U.S. (1, -3) than that of Democratic Presidents (-4, -2). Note: I excluded Gerald Ford, mostly in order to keep the number of Republicans and Democrats equal at 4 each.
I scored 2.5 on moral order and 4.5 on moral rules.
That would put you pretty much on par with Japan’s profile. More ominously, you’d be flirting with National Socialism. Are you sure you don’t mean MINUS 4.5 on moral rules (vertical axis)?

There’s a possibility that, instead of the test “misunderestimating” your liberal qualities, you have instead been “misunderestimating” your own conservative qualities, no?
Perhaps the following quote can help you decide:
“A neoconservative is just a liberal who got mugged by reality. A neoliberal is a liberal who got mugged by reality but has not pressed charges.”—Irving Kristol

Too true, too true, ChicagoGabriel. But I would adjust Kristol’s definition of a neoliberal to read: A neoliberal is a person mugging before reality.
The program stated I am a stanch conservative in close correlation with our founding fathers. It then stated that due to recent actions I no longer have a home in the Republican party.

Could you explain that, please, “Blank Cheque”? Your re-definition sounds intriguing, and I want to make sure I understand it, rather than just guess. Thanks.

Uh-oh! Are you therefore, like “Blank Cheque”, worrying about whether you and G.W. Bush were “separated at birth”?
:)
Anyway, glad you found the site enjoyable. I sure have. Much fun.
