I read as much of the interview as I could stand.

A telling parallel exists in China, where all university students from freshmen through doctoral candidates are required to take these “political” classes that are nothing but Chinese Commie indoctrination. The students all hate it. I’m not sure what the teachers think since I never got to ask any of them, but I’m guessing they hate their duties, too.

Thank God I graduated a while ago. If I were required to spend my precious TIME and my college credit$ (they aren’t free) on this slop, I’d . . . well hey, come to think of it, I might just find it a reason to start a rebellion. Speak truth to power and all?

I am really quite tired of being blamed for the woes of other people because I am white. The race card has been played for so long that I am exhausted by it.

I am thankful that I was in a position to send my daughter to private Christian school and thankful that she didn’t learn the hate that is now “preached” in the public schools.

This doesn’t excuse the execrable course, but anyone who signs up at ‘Thurgood Marshall College’ has got to expect some garbage like this being forced on them.

I hate stupid teaching assistants anyway. I hate them, I hate their whole attitude.

I went to grad school at UCSD (PhD Political Science, 2004) and know a bit about DOC.  UCSD is divided into six colleges, each of which requires that freshmen take a one-year writing sequence.  DOC is the sequence for one of the six colleges, Thurgood Marshall College.  It is known across campus as the most, ahem, progressive of the writing programs.  Having that reputation, it attracts progressive TAs.  I never attended a class, but the word on campus is that it’s everything this student says it is. 

In fact, I spent two years as a teaching assistant in one of the other programs.  (When looking for a job, I applied to each writing sequence *except* DOC.) I worked for the Revelle writing program, which is known as the most traditional on campus.  During my time I spent a lot of time teaching my students, you know, how to write, and intelligently read classic texts (Old & New testament, Green and Latin works, etc).  I can’t remember discussing contemporary politics.

A short walk from the UCSD campus to Black’s (nude) Beach - i.e., Torrey Pines State Park - where the students might observe for themselves that all men are NOT created equal!

a. The specific school at UCSD - Thurgood Marshall - was created in the ‘70s with the specific but subliminal purpose of teaching this kind of crapola. What was the student expecting? Did he/she not look at the curriculum before attending? What about his/her parents?
b. It’s doubtful that this sort of stuff can be turned off or toned down at any government funded school. But it’s also rampant at places that depend on alumni support. If you went to such a school, look closely at today’s curriculum, express your displeasure as an alumnus and don’t give the school your money.

I am so out of touch. I was amazed that this sort of crap existed even in a California college. I can’t believe that the tax payers would put up with such nonsense!

School does NOT represent the University.  My mentors went to school there.  I was on my way to UCSD for my Phud when economics intervened.  That university has many programs that are intellectually honest and downright fascinating for those who want to learn.  The distinguished professors who taught ethnomethodology and phenomenology bundled up with Irving Goffman’s “Symbolic Interactionism” was second to none in the country.  Their take on today’s social issues can be found in “Sage Publications”.

My daughter is a Bio major at UCSD, Thurgood Marshall College and in her senior year. She had to take this class as a freshman. We had many discussions about the course content and direction and so in that regard it was very useful. A total BS class mind you but useful in that it demonstrated the Left/Right divide in this country. Something I want her to get a handle on.

I have always wanted for her to be able to recognize BS. In sports when she had a bad coach I’d leave her on the team thinking that it would be a good learning experience for her. No blind faith in leadership! You can learn from your mistakes as well as the mistakes of others! And so on. This class served the same purpose. It gave her an opportunity to observe the thought processes of the over reaching left. She called it BS on day one.

A few quick obsevations about UCSD.

Not that many black students, somedays walking around campus, I don’t see more than one or two. Why is that?

ALL of my daughter’s roommates and most of her friends are Asian. She’s white. According to her, BS alarms went off in most quarters regarding this class.
