"Autumn Leaves” is a much-recorded popular song. Originally a 1945 French song “Les feuilles mortes” (literally “Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, English lyrics were written in 1947 by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer. It has become a pop standard and a jazz standard in both languages, and as an instrumental. “Les feuilles mortes” was introduced by Yves Montand in 1946 for the film Les Portes de la Nuit.

In an instrumental version of 1955 “Autumn Leaves” was a number one hit for Roger Williams in the United States, the only instrumental to reach number one and remaining in that position for four weeks.

Still, it’s hard to beat Nat King Cole’s rendition: http://tinyurl.com/2g3d7g

PARIS (AP)—Divers trained in archaeology discovered a marble bust of an aging Julius Caesar in the Rhone River that France’s Culture Ministry said Tuesday could be the oldest known [the bust, not the river].

The life-sized bust showing the Roman ruler with wrinkles and hollows in his face is tentatively dated to 46 B.C. Divers uncovered the Caesar bust [i.e., the bust of Caesar] and a collection of other finds in the Rhone near the town of Arles—[which was] founded by Caesar.

Among other items in the treasure trove of ancient objects is a 1.8-meter (5.9 foot) marble statue of Neptune, dated to the first decade of the third century after Christ [or A. D.].

Two smaller statues, both in bronze and measuring 70 centimeters (27.5 inches) each also were found, one of them, a satyr with his hands tied behind his back, [which] “doubtless” originated in Hellenic Greece, the ministry said.

“Some (of the discoveries) are unique in Europe,” Culture Minister Christine Albanel said. The bust of Caesar is in a class by itself.

“This marble bust of the founder of the Roman city of Arles constitutes the most ancient representation known today of Caesar,” the ministry statement said, adding that it “undoubtedly” dates to the creation of Arles in 46 B.C. [end]

"Half a century after the atomic blasts that devastated Bikini Atoll, vast expanses of corals in the area seem to be flourishing once again, much to the surprise of scientists.

............

“I didn’t know what to expect — some kind of moonscape perhaps. But it was incredible, huge matrices of branching Porites coral (up to 8 meters [25 feet] high) had established, creating a thriving coral reef habitat,” said study team member Zoe Richards of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies and James Cook University.

“Throughout other parts of the lagoon it was awesome to see coral cover as high as 80 percent and large tree-like branching coral formations with trunks 30 centimeters [12 inches] thick.”

A nearby atoll is likely seeding the coral recovery, the scientists think, and because the island is rarely visited, the coral is left to recover.

Richards said that the healthy condition of the Bikini corals was a sign of the resilience of corals after a major disturbance, if left undisturbed to recuperate.”

But....what would good news be like if the requisite booh-hoo’ing wasn’t included?

“The news wasn’t all good however, as there was a disturbingly high level of loss of coral species from around the atoll.

Forty-two species of corals are missing compared to a study made before the atomic tests were carried out.”

The very voice of a new spirit of freedom, love and hope for America in the late sixties, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were to become the biggest example of liberal hypocracy from the late 1970s until today.

There was a big gap between the the sweet early days in the flower scented paradise that was Laurel Canyon in lower Hollywood in the late sixties and the massive egos, lust for fame and money, cocaine and sell-out that marked the group in the 1980s.

But growing up to be an adult liberal is growing up to find that your youthful idealism runs counter to your own behaviour and character, and after a lifetime of beleiving in conspiracy theory over fact it is too late to grasp the genuine reality around you.

Even when that reality explodes into the World Trade Center you are programmed to blame the government, the facts are irrelevant, the myth remains supreme.

This clip shows a group in 2006 bloated by years of excess trying to come down from their golden palaces to talk to ‘the kids of today’ who they wrongfully think are the same as the kids of their day. And their thesis that the situation today is the same as it was in Nixons time is nothing short of pathetic.

Worst of all someone misinformed them that freedom of speech was coming to an end and they took the bait and swallowed it.

It includes an apology to Al Quaida from Stephen Stills that goes with a peace sign and the message that we all just want to live in peace together. With bloated tongue and bloated belly; the very picture of a man wasted by self-indulgent decadence, does he really think Osama or Zwaheri would listen to his plea?

That is the final degredation of this group that they have no understanding of the threat that faces America and line up with Sarandon and all the looney tunes of left liberalism.

But for all that I love them and cherish their music, forgiving them for long ago losing touch with reality.

What I do feel angy about is the presumptious liberal idiot who does the read out claiming that the groups fans have always supported their ideas. No, only the less intelligent and the less politically aware.
